Before today, there were some hurdles that users had to get past in order to share files and folders via Dropbox. Sharing used to require both users registering for the service, downloading the application, and downloading the files to their respective devices.
Today Dropbox is introducing a feature that will make sharing using the service much easier. The feature allows users with uploaded files to generate a link to any content they have hosted on Dropbox's servers. Users simply have to right click on the item they wish to share publicly and select the "Get link" option to generate a URL that can be shared and will allow anyone to view or stream the file from Dropbox.
Just like before, only registered users can actually download the files. Links can't be set to automatically expire after a set amount of time. Users have to manage which of their files they want shared and change the files back to private if they don't want it to be publicly accessible anymore. The feature has been in beta development for some time and will be rolling out to all version of Dropbox in the near future.
