This week appears to be a week of acquisitions for Google. Yesterday brought the conclusion of the long in the works Motorola acquisition. This merger has many wondering if Google plans to get into the hardware business. An announcement of another acquisition today brings even more hardware design talent to Google in the form of Mike and Maaike.
This husband and wife run design firm is responsible for many memorable devices. These include the original Xbox 360 and, even more helpful for Google, an unreleased QWERTY Android device and the very first Android phone to hit the market, the T-Mobile G1.
Google has yet to announce what exact role Mike and Maaike will be playing. Their hardware design skills are undoubtedly impressive. Their talents coupled with the recently acquired hardware production resources of Motorola could result in some impressive devices if Google decides to get into the hardware game.
