Today was the day of Apple's long expected Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The event is basically a one-stop shop for all new things Apple. We have been hearing a nonstop onslaught of rumors as to what would be announced today. Well, the event just ended and we have the news on all the announcements from WWDC 2012.
The first new products announced by Apple today were refreshes to their various MacBook laptops. Apple has improved both the specs and designs on both their super svelte MacBook Air and the more powerful line of MacBook Pros.
The new MacBook Pro, shown above, is a much thinner device than before. Measuring in at only 0.71 inches thick. Apple achieved this feat by removing the optical drive coupled with their sturdy unibody aluminum construction. The new MacBook Pro is also the lightest Apple has ever produced, coming in at less than 4.5 pounds.
The most impressive feature, however, would have to be the Retina Display. Yes, this is the same ultra-high pixel density display that Apple made famous first on the iPhone 4 and then on the new iPad. The new 15-inch MacBook Pro display has an impressive resolution of 2800x1880. This brings it to 220 ppi which puts it comfortably within the Retina Display range that prevents the human eye from distinguishing individual pixels.
The ultra-thin MacBook Air also received a specs refresh during today's keynote. These devices will now feature Ivy Bridge processors. The 11-inch model will start at only $999 which will get you a dual-core 1.7GHZ core i5 chip while the 13-inch model will come with a $1,199 price tag, 1.8GHz processor, and double the 11-incher's 64GB of flash storage.
Both the refreshed MackBook Pro with Retina Display and the Ivy Bride equipped MacBook Air air available for purchase now via Apple's website. There also won't be any wait after you buy your new laptop. The devices began shipping today as well.
