Eastman Kodak Co. is suing Apple to stop the Cupertino company from interfering in the patents they are trying to sell. Selling its patents is a part of Kodak's huge plan for reestructuring after they filed for bankruptcy in early January this year.
In the lawsuit filed by Kodak at The United States Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan, Kodak says Apple is wrongly claiming ownership over a total of 10 patents they consider crucial for their current process of selling patents. The patents are associated with a project the two companies had together in early 1990s.
Another company, named FlashPoint Technology, is also claiming ownership over some Kodak patents through an assignment from Apple, Kodak said. The patents being discussed include technology that helps camera users preview photographs on LCD screens.
Kodak claims Apple and FlashPoint are using the current financial state of the company to benefit from not paying royalties as the delay of the patent selling progress can not only bring the price tag for these patents at a minimum, and so they will purchase them at a low rate, but also could hand in the patents to them for free.
