You may remember last month that UK based mobile carriers Vodafone and EE were rolling out free Wi-Fi to London’s iconic underground metro system. It seems the free Wi-Fi revolution in the city will not end there though, with new plans afoot to bring free Wi-Fi to every black cab in London.
London Mayor Boris Johnson once promised that the UK capital would become one giant hotspot, and that is certainly becoming the case. As well as traditional hotspot venues such as bars and fast food chains, London is being liked up in other areas too. The world famous red phone boxes now carry Wi-Fi connectivity, as do boats on the River Thames.
Company Eyetease has been given the go ahead to place routers in the also iconic black cabs, the routers will be dynamic, switching between 3G and 4G as the car moves and enters areas that carry both connections. Passengers will get 15-minutes of free Wi-Fi in exchange for watching a 15-second advert.
