O2, the UK based mobile carrier is embarking on a noble pursuit; the company wants mobile phone manufacturers to stop bundling chargers with their phones. The company released a study this week that showed 82% of consumers who bought the HTC One X+ left the store without buying a charger.
O2 now wants to phase out bundled chargers entirely by 2015, "The results of the trial demonstrate a clear willingness among consumers to consider and respond to the environmental argument for taking a phone charger-free," O2 CEO Ronan Dunne told The Guardian.
However, we have to say just because customers left the store without buying a charger does not mean they did not later buy a cheaper third party alternative. However, there is certainly credibility in O2’s claims, and a rise in USB charging could help their cause, although we suspect they will have their work cut out for them.
