Google, who acquired Motorola Mobility in 2011 but doesn't legally operate the company yet, is actually the real author of the lawsuit Motorola filled against Apple on Wednesday (Jan 25th). The current deal between Motorola and Google forces Motorola to ask for Google's permission to start litigation.
That's exactly it, Motorola Mobility would have to have Google's permission to start the lawsuit against Apple. As Motorola was sold to Google last year, we assume Motorola doesn't really care anymore about patent infringement as this would be Google's matters and therefore, it really is. The lawsuit just adds more tension to the war Apple kicked off against manufacturers of Android devices.
Motorolainitiated a litigation against Apple on Wednesday (Jan 25th) accusing the company of infringing six of their patents on the iPhone 4S and cloud storage service iCloud. The lawsuit was filed at the U.S. District Court of South Florida.
