
Android devices are on track to be selling more than Windows-based PCs worldwide by 2016, says a report from IDC. According to the company, smart devices (smartphones and tablets) will jump from 1.1 billion units per year in 2012 to 1.84 billion units in 2016.
By the time, Windows will lose its crown to Android and so Google's operating system will be world's most used OS. The most frightening thing (or not) is that Windows might in fact become an underground operating system with the lack of phones and tablets opting for the OS.
Microsoft recognizes the future in tech world is residing on mobile and that is why the company has been so eager to make Windows 8 happen in tablets and much more desperate to make Windows Phone as a mobile operating system grow, but if IDC is right, Windows mobile platforms won't gain much until 2016.
