When you run a website or a blog no matter what for it soon becomes evident to you that one of the most important things behind the scenes is statistics. You can’t help it really, when you write you want to know how many people are looking at what you write. When your own little space of the internet starts to become popular and you decide to work with other people one of the first things they will want to know is how many unique visitors your site has. These are important especially to PR companies who need to know how many people their news will reach.
Soon you will find that you are constantly checking up on your stats and planning out campaigns based on what people are reading. To extend your reach on search engines you’ll also move into SEO which relies on tracking of your statistics to see that your optimising of your site is working. Statistics are arguably one of the most important things when running a website so it’s important to keep an eye on them. That’s why there are times when you’ll want to check them while on the move, this is where Analytics comes in for your iPhone and iPad.
Google Analytics
The chances are that you have this set up on your website or blog and are used to checking on the stats and making sure that everything is running ok. All you need is the Google tracking code on your website and you are good to go. With a little settings up on the app to basically log into your Google account the Analytics app connects to your statistics and gives you an over view for all of your websites.

Once you are logged into your account, or accounts as there is support for multiple ones, you’ll be able to select the website you want to see the statistics for and then be given an over view of the options available to you. This basically gives you access to reports on the statistics for over the last few days and of course today so you can see the progress so far.
Features
The main feature of course is the statistics. With around 55 reports available to provide you with analysis of everything that has been logged for the site there is plenty of information to go through. There is also support for Adsense too so you can see how your advertising campaigns are going, this is of course important as this is the main revenue for the site.
As with the web interface each account that you log into has support for a number of website connected to it so you’ll have no problems checking up on all the sites you have. As mentioned above you can also have multiple accounts in the app itself which can be important if you are segregating websites between companies you are running websites for, for example.

With filters such as the ability to filter by date ranges, keyword analysis, source, and browser used etc. you have access to pretty much all the information that the web version has. It does have to be pointed out though that while you do have all of this functionality it can be slow at times, especially getting to the more complicated reports. Another downside is a lack of graphs. You do get access to these in the overview, but it would have been nice to see them in more of the reports too.
Verdict
For the statistic obsessed webmaster and SEO consultant on the move the Analytics app is a great tool that will be able to give you reports on just about everything you need. The slowdown when navigating between reports can be an issue but when compared to the actual functionality that is provided this is just a little problem really and it’s something you can live with.
