To be topical today I thought I would look at Valentine’s Day apps and see just how bad they can be. Romance is never a bad thing of course, but it’s obvious that half of the apps out there are either a cheap marketing plot or very cheesy. If for arguments sake though we take a step back and look at some of the apps, do they get the fun of the day and are there any good ones out there?
Don’t worry, I’m not going to look at that many and I’m not going to criticise the apps for just how bad they are, but it’s still an interesting thing to look at. So for the hopeless romantics out there, and the people who just want to find a date for the night let’s take a trip into the “love” section of the app world and see what we can find.
The App and Love

The easiest ones to find of course are “Love and Romance Quotes” style apps. These literally are a collection of quotes about love that are meant to make you all warm inside and make your loved one smile. From the example image for these style of apps you can see they are quite cheesy, but to be fair to them they will amuse you and your partner at least, and most of these are free apps. There are ones that provide poetry too, to get you in the mood for love.
Of course, for people without dates for the night there are also the dating apps. Searching Google Play for Match.com for example show that there is an app for this dating site, and I can’t say I’ve had experience with these kinds of sites but the money they seem to make do show that they have success. Finding love online, especially on Valentine’s Day isn’t really new, it’s just a new way of meeting people and its fun, I’d argue this is the less cheesy kind of app for this special day.

Valentine’s Day is of course about couples, about love and about having that perfect somebody. Yes, there are plenty of companies that want you to spend loads of money just to show you love somebody, and I’d not argue against doing that for the right person, but to add a new twist on things, why not use apps to send a special message? One thing that can be done is to get hold of your loved ones phone and use an app to apply a Valentine’s theme, wouldn’t that be romantic?
All joking aside and without any hint of cynicism about Valentine’s Day it’s a day to share with the people you love and we live in an age where technology can be used to not only make expressions of love but to be imaginative with just how we get that special person to notice us. Whether it’s so watch your favourite romantic movie, use an app to send a message or just to do something really cheesy to get a laugh from somebody days like Valentine’s Day are there to be enjoyed.
