Both Minecraft's creator Markuss "Notch" Persson and Microsoft's Major Nelson have announced some impressive figures for the recently released Xbox 360 version of the downloadable PC smash hit. The game has managed to both earn the money spent in its development and break Xbox Live Arcade sales records in the very short period of time since its launch.
The first bit of news comes from Major Nelson, famous Xbox 360 evangelist, he announced on his blog that the Xbox port of Minecraft had sold more digital copies in a 24-hour period than any other Xbox Live Arcade title in the service's history.
Official numbers on the title's sales have yet to be released but Nelson also wrote in his blog post that when he checked the Xbox Live leaderboards, the game had over 400,000 people playing at the time of his post. This, while not an exact statement of copies sold, gives us an idea of the success it has seen.
We also have some exciting news courtesy of Minecraft's creator. "Notch" announced that the game has become profitable within the span of only an hour. This is an incredibley quick turnaround for Polytron Studios, the company who handled the process of porting the game to the Xbox 360.
