When creating an online presence, especially for online gaming it’s always important to get your character right. You want to make a first impression and create a character that fits your style of gameplay. Sometimes you don’t get that right your first go, so it’s nice to have the option to make a few changes.
With the Xbox LIVE environment this is one style of popular multi-player gaming where your player is all important. The gamertag can be changed, and if you created your tag when you first joined LIVE then you will have a free chance to change it. After this first go it will cost you 800 Microsoft Game Points, which for anybody who uses LIVE I’m sure you know, it’s quite costly for such a change.
Changing your Gamertag

The first thing to do to change your gamertag is to turn on your console and log into Xbox LIVE. Make sure this is the LIVE name that you want to change. Using the menus go to Social and then select your avatar character. Press right to move to change gamertag and select it. Remember to note the price, this will tell you if you actually have to pay for it this time.
Now enter the new gamertag that you want to use, making sure that there are no mistakes in it. You don’t want to waste money having to change it again for a silly mistake. If the name is already taken you will be able to “Get suggestions” for what can be used instead. Once you have chosen which gamertag to use then confirm the choice. If you don’t have enough Microsoft Points you’ll find that you will also have to add these to complete the process.

Once this change has been made you will now see that your name has been changed to the one you have chosen, this will be across all systems that use your Xbox LIVE name, all of your friends lists will also update to use this name so be sure to let them know of the name change to avoid any confusion.
