Social game company Zynga has started the fairly long process of getting a gambling license and offering real money games to its users in the United States. The California based developer has applied for rights in Nevada, a process that could take between 12 and 18 months.
Zynga already runs games that would be a perfect fit for real money gaming, such as Zynga Poker. At the moment Zynga Poker only lets players use virtual currency to play, although users can purchase more of this virtual money with real cash.
However a gambling license would allow the company to develop social games where players can play for real money. Especially in poker this could be a substantial move for the company that has had a turbulent year with poor financial results. Zynga recently toned down its long standing relationship with Facebook.
