Get the Most Out of Playing Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Ni No Kuni has been out for a few weeks now and people have fallen in love with the game.  With its Studio Ghibli created animation and style and Level 5’s expertise in gameplay it’s caught RPG fans and made them fall in love with it.  In its own way it’s quite a simple game to get into and to make progress in, but if you don’t follow the basic rules of playing role playing games it can soon become hard.

The fact is that Ni No Kuni is a surprisingly big game and to try and rush through it to enjoy the story (and trust me you will) you miss a lot of the beauty of just how good it is.  Taking a step back from the animation and soundtrack though and remembering that it is in fact a role playing game those moments you get stuck can actually be worked around by following a few simple rules.

How to Progress Easier in Ni No Kuni

The first thing to do is don’t rely on the first familiars you collected.  I know it feels right to build up Mitey as a strong sidekick and to use him to do the most damage, but the secret of battle is to understand that he’s not the best fighter for every battle.  Take notice of the signs that each familiar has (Moon, Star, Sun etc.) these represent their strengths in battle, so take notice which work the best against each other for the best results.  Take your strongest fighters into battle and you’ll find success easier.

One of the basic techniques for progressing in role playing games is “grinding”, which means to level up your characters to make them stronger.  Take part in all battles you can to get your characters to the strongest they can be before heading into the boss battles, if you find yourself in one that you can’t win, then reconsider what level your characters are at and if they need some building up.  Remember that your familiars can also be kitted out with better weapons and armour, and of course advanced in their form to be stronger characters (although that will reset their level).

Have you noticed that when you die you lose a certain amount of money each time? Then do something about this that is quite simple, spend it before you head out into a dungeon.  If you have no money it’s not going to suddenly mean game over, everything will stay the same so don’t go wasting that money simply on dying, spend it on things that will help your characters progress.

The most important thing to do though is enjoy the game.  The world if Ni No Kuni is big, it’s fun and there is plenty of side quests to do for you to fully enjoy what a special world Studio Ghibli have helped create.  Yes, we all obviously want to play the main quest to find out just what happens to Oliver and if he is reunited with his mother, and we all enjoy Drippy and the way he steals the show. Remember though it’s a game as well, one that you’ll get even more enjoyment out of if you put the required work into it.
