When improving SEO sometimes people forget that images can be searched for too. Images are not only pleasing on the eye and make your pages look good but they can also hold information to attract search engines to them.
Google as an example search engine of course can’t read the actual images that you put on your pages but what it can do is read the attributes. The one that can be most important is the “alt” attribute, the title attribute and the filename itself. This is used to describe the image.
The Power of the Keywords
Remember to put your keywords into the title of the image file. This will tell the search engine what the image is and what searches to relate it to. Be aware though that Google can tell similar images so if this image has been used on many of your pages or even on other sites Google will not just show hundreds of variations of the same image, but pick the best ones out.
Also put the keywords into the title of the Image and the alt attribute. It is also important though to remember that the alt attribute should be in well spoken English. This is because screen readers for the visually impaired will use this to describe the picture to them.
Link the Image
By linking the image to a page within your site this is also useful for SEO purposes. By linking your pages to others that hold more information on the post you will increase your sites page rank within Google and gain more hits on the actual pages.
When looking to increase visitors to your site SEO must never be ignored. People make a lot of money from offering services to improve the searchability of your site but it’s possible for you yourself to do this yourself. Done right and done well you will see higher page rankings within the search engines and more people finding their way to your site.
