Enhance the Comments Section on Your Website

One of the best ways to communicate with people who read your site is through comments systems.  These can range from simplistic to more complicated forms.  Of course the more complicated forms are often more visually pleasant to the user and can help you deal with spam comments, making it easy to remove them and ban the user from your site.

One of the ways to add a comments system to your site like this is Disqus.  This has become very popular among websites and even has big names such as CNN and IGN that use it.  This means that it’s obviously got credibility with companies that can afford to pick and choose the best software for their use.

How to Get Disqus

The easiest way to show how to get Disqus is to show how it can be done on Wordpress.  This is done in two stages, in the Wordpress CMS itself and on the Disqus website itself (though you can do all registering you need to do within the CMS itself.  The main thing though is that you have to register yourself on the Disqus website and so that you can use their service.

To get the service onto your Wordpress website first go to your dashboard and click to add a new plug in to your site.  Once this is installed and activated you will find the Disqus menu option under the comment menu option.  This will open up the site that you need to register your site with.  Follow the instructions and enter your details so that you and your site are registered then click on install to add the code into your site to show the comments.

Using Disqus and its options you will also be able to migrate your older comments to the system as well as Disqus itself saving any comments made into your database.  This will mean that if you choose to remove the comments system from your site you will not lose any of your comments, they will appear on the site just as normal.  They will not include any of the additional options that Disqus offers of course but the main comment will be available.

Another advantage of Disqus is the more advanced moderating tools that are available.  As your aim is to have polite discussions on your website without the interference of "trolls" it's always important to keep an eye on the comments that are being posted.  Having a good user interface to your comments system is a must, especially when dealing with unwanted comments.

Wordpress is not the only CMS system that Disqus can be used with.  The website itself for the comments system (disqus.com) will give you all the information you need to install and run Disqus easily.  There are many other systems available for comments, even the ability to use Facebook comments, so if Disqus is not for you then have a look around to find the best option.
