Use SEO in Pinterest to Improve your Products Visibility

I’ve written about Pinterest to drive traffic to your site but this this can be extended even more by using it for SEO, and of course optimising the content you put onto your boards so that they are themselves searchable.  This will not only catch interest of people on the Pinterest site itself but it will also make your online visibility increase and in turn increase the traffic even more.  If you remember that Pinterest is the concept of creating pinboards and pinning interesting items onto your boards then just think of putting interesting pages off your page onto the boards and using them as advertisements for your content.

Pinterest itself is designed to be very user friendly so this gives you the chance to use it’s in built optimisation to your advantage.  Your main aim is to make your boards as interesting as possible, to catch people’s interest with interesting pictures and content and above all advertise your product.

How to Optimise your Pinterest content

One of the easiest things to look at is the titles for your boards.  Make these interesting to people, with such things to sell your product.  For example if you had a site that sold books then create a board called “My Books” this will make people who have an interest in books gravitate to that board.  Also the fact that the HTML behind the Pinterest page creates these as headers (<h3> in fact) this means that search engines will pick them up.

When you create descriptions of your pinned items make sure you use keywords in these descriptions.  Also don’t forget to make sure this is good quality content, don’t try to make it more interesting for the search bots, make it just as interesting for the people that are reading it.  If you want people to notice your pins you have to catch their interest, don’t just assume they will automatically look.

If you’ve used Twitter you will also be used to using Hashtags.  The good news here is that Pinterest also uses them, so make use of them.  What this will do is make it so you can use popular hashtags, so that when people click on that hashtag your pins will show.  

The most important thing about using social sites like Pinterest is to be inventive in your SEO planning.  Follow the rules of SEO and put these into practice on Social Media and understand how the search engines will use them and you will find that they can be a very useful tool to increase traffic towards your site and create interest in it.
