Make a Private Tumblr Blog

Tumblr accounts can be fun; they allow you to follow other people’s tumblr pages and “reblog” what they post.  You can do normal blogs as it is a blogger site but one of the main reasons people use it are to post images and videos that they have created.  This creates a community of artistic minds who all sharing interesting things.  This a lot of the times ends up being animated gifs from their favourite shows, but it still has its purpose.

Sometimes though as with all other blog sites you wish to protect the things you are putting on there, you feel that you want to be able to blog anything you want without prying eyes reading it.  This could be from your friends or neighbours to even your boss so that you can protect your job.  This is topical of course because we hear more and more about how people can be fired based on their activities online.

Protecting your Tumblr

The strange thing about creating a Tumblr account is that your first one can’t be private.  What you actually have to do is create one first and only then you can have a private one.  In saying it’s private it’s only as private as a password can make it though as this is the option you are given, to password protect your new site.

On the Dashboard for your Tumblr site simple click on the + sign as this is the option to add a new blog, then enter the details for your site and where it says Privacy tick the box next to “Password protect this blog” then add the password you want to use.  Now whenever anybody tries to view the new blog they will be asked for the password.  They won’t be able to get in unless you have provided them with it.

It's always important to remember with Social Media that it's a very public form of entertainment where everything you do can be seen without the correct privacy settings.  If you find that you don't want to share everything you post then take the time to learn the security settings and make the changes to protect yourself and what you do.
