When you use applications a lot you want them to be easy to find, this can either be in your start menu or task bar. One drawback with the start menu though is that it can often become out of control and hard to find the things that you want.
Thankfully this is not an issue when you can "pin" applications to the taskbar. It's easy to do and something that is often looked over in the menu options when you right-click on a shortcut. Used wisely you can have all your most useful applications closer to hand than you expected.

Pinning to the Taskbar
One thing you can do though is to use your taskbar and “pin” the applications you want to the left hand side, next to the start menu. This is easy to use and very useful, especially when you want to find your web browser quickly, or emails. Thankfully Windows 7 has made this easy to do. Simply right click on the application that you want to pin to the taskbar and select “pin to Taskbar”, then you will find that even when closed the icon for the application will be there ready for you to click on.

Pinning to the Start Menu
It should also be noted that you can pin items to the start menu too. This will make it so that the application icon will appear on the top of the start menu as soon as you click on Start. This saves you from having to search through all the items in the main menu when looking for what you need.
