LG Go Quad-Core with the Optimus 4X HD Phone

As smartphones become more and more complicated and offer us apps that require more and more power the processors have to take the strain and be up to the task.  The new LG Optimus 4X HD is LG’s move to make their way into the quad-core powered phone market and provide their users with all the speed they need.

Coming with Ice Cream Sandwich as its Android Operating System of choice it’s going to offer an experience that is responsive, fast and can do everything you want it to, but it’s also moving into a market where competition is fierce.  Competing with the likes of iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X it’s got a lot to prove if it can win the battle of the powerhouses.

Build

The look of the phone is very similar to the others they have released in 2012, minimalist in design and neat.  It’s slim and lightweight but provides the looks where it matters, on the screen.  If people are looking for a fashionable and nice looking phone then this will live up to the task.

Operating System & Features

As mentioned the phone comes with Ice Cream Sandwich installed which is Google’s latest available operating system until Jellybean is officially released.  With the 1.5Ghz quad-core processor everything runs fast and smooth with no lag, It’s interesting that LG actually describe the phone as a “4+1” core, because there is an extra core that is slower (500Mhz) but is used for when the phone is on standby, this saves on battery power while it’s doing all the things phones do when not in use.  The screen is around 4.7 inches and is vivid and bright, the graphics are clear and easy to see with no evident problems

Camera

With an 8 mega pixel camera on the rear this provides the usual quality as most other phones do.  The camera quality is very good though and with the quad-core power it’s fast and very easy to use.  There is also a front facing camera too which is 1.3 mega pixels.

Performance

Coupling Ice Cream Sandwich up with the quad-core processor gives excellent performance which is of course expected when all that power is made available to phones such as this.  Using the processor really pushes the phone to look better graphically and with its fast response it provides everything expected.

Verdict

For fans of LG phones this will be a must buy, but in a market right now that is so exclusive it will be interesting to see if it has what it takes to catch peoples eye.  Quad-core is definitely the way to go for phones now and LG may have quite a unique selling point with its extra processor that saves power  This will have to be seen of course when we get to see more about the phone closer to its release at the end of the month.
